As leaves fall whimsically from transforming limbs and maple trees foam with sap, the air catches a rejuvenating autumn aura. The churning and burning of apple cider and sugar and spice scented candles warmly welcomes fall. Contributing to the autumn aura, another sweet, reviving aroma that fills the crisp air originates from two small, white cups. Engraved with a logo that sweeps along the side of the cup, the magical, autumn scent belongs to none other than the Hotspot Pumpkin Spice and Pecan Pie Lattes.

Hotspot, a quaint and cozy coffeehouse located on the Holton Square, began serving their “Flavors of Fall” menu in the fall of 2013. Of their fall flavors, Pumpkin Spice and Pecan Pie are two of the most popular concoctions.

More commonly referred to as the “PSL”, the Pumpkin Spice Latte made its return in early September. Served to the brim of a small, medium, or large cup, the PSL holds no secret to its ingredients. The pumpkin and spice flavors that swirl amidst the cup walls can be enjoyed as a hot, iced, or blended beverage. By no surprise, the seasonal brew quickly claimed the hearts of coffee lovers—once again.

“Everyone waits and waits for the Pumpkin Spice Latte and then when it finally arrives, people go crazy for that thing,” sophomore Blake Harris said.

As coffee lovers worldwide deck the halls and sing merry carols, they begin to crave the taste of buttered pecans, cinnamon, and sugar. Although many traditional holiday enthusiasts bake ones customary pecan pie, Hotspot goers can enjoy the pecan flavor through a brew instead of a pie.

“[Pecan pie] is a flavor combination I love…it makes me feel like it’s finally time for cozy sweaters, falling leaves, and a nice chilly breeze,” junior Bre Teter said.

Akin to the changing seasons of the world, the seasons of coffee transform as well. Beginning near the start of fall, the “Flavors of Fall” menu will transition into new, sensational flavors as soon as each crisp leaf vanishes from the ground. Experiencing an autumn, caffeine-indorsed withdrawal, Pecan Pie and Pumpkin Spice Latte fanatics will long for their beloved drinks, until the leaves begin to fall once more.
