All the weight has shifted from football to basketball season as the Kansas Jayhawks went into their season opener ranked as the #1 team in the nation. The Jayhawks didn’t disappoint as they cruised through the open 101-65 over the Hofstra Pride. Xavier Henry sent a freshman record for most points in an opener scoring 27 points.

Their next opponent the Memphis Tigers, a rematch of the 2008 national title game. The Jayhawks struggled turning the ball over 21 times but still came away with a victory by a score of 57-55. Big man Cole Aldrich scored 18 points, grabbed 11 rebounds, and blocked 5 shots.

The Jayhawks played their second game in three days as the Central Arkansas Bears traveled to Allen Fieldhouse. The Jayhawks figured out their turnover problem, only turning it over twice in the first half. Their defense also played very well. At one point in the first half Central Arkansas didn’t score a point for nearly 12 minuets. Kansas cruised in this game by a final score of 94-44. Junior Tyrel Reed broke out of his shooting slump by scoring 12 points, going 4-5 from 3-point range.

The Kansas Jayhawks next game will be Wednesday November 25, 7:00 at Allen Fieldhouse against the Oakland Golden Grizzlies.
