The varsity football boys are making an impressive entrance into district play, with an undefeated 7-0 record so far, which for a Holton team in the last 10 years is pretty average.
The boys played Atchison County Community High School (ACCHS) for the Homecoming game this year and dominated the game, winning 52- 26. The Wildcat rushing attack combined 43 carries for a total of 368 yards.
The team beat league rivals, the Sabetha Bluejays, a team that beat Holton two years ago. A score of 41- 21 defeated the Blue jays. The Wildcats dominated all game. The team was supposed to win and they didn’t disappoint.
At Atchison, in the Wildcats’ first district game, the team came out on fire putting up 14 points early in the game in what would soon become a 42-14 stomping of the Redmen team at Amelia Earhardt Field.
The Wildcats were expected to get the win going in, but Atchison’s speed has occasionally caused a problem for Holton in the past. But the Wildcats got up on them early and stayed there.
“I think the team is doing good, I hope the streak continues the rest of the season.” Matt Hundley, Wildcat football coach, said.
This week the Wildcats face a good Hiawatha team with one of the top ranked runningbacks in the state in their backfield. The team may have a challenge corralling him, especially with the help of a much-improved line leading the way. Look for a good game this week.
“I think the team is doing well, but we need to work harder if we are to go on to the State Championship,” Tanner Clark, junior, said.
