Lady Cats strive for success

A long fought battle for league was hashed out on Tuesday the 13^th of October. Holton and Effingham were fighting for a first place finish in the Big 7 League. The League Title had come down to one last game, and the Cats put up an outstanding fight. Unfortunately, the Lady Cats picked up a second place finish in league, after just barely losing to Effingham.

“We should have gotten first but we played two really hard teams that night and they had one of their best nights,” Julia Shoemaker commented.

Holton also faced Nemaha Valley, the third place finisher, who ended up taking Holton to three games. The Cats did not finish up their games that night until 10 o’clock.

With sub-state just around the corner, Holton Lady Cats have high hopes for the couple of weekends that lie ahead. The Cats will play in Perry the following weekend for sub-state on October 23 hoping to come out on top.

“Our toughest competition will probably be Wamego, Hayden, or even Silver Lake. They’re pretty good,” Kylie Miller, sophomore said, “All teams are beatable though.”

She is very correct in saying so since Holton has suffered close losses to each of these teams and are looking forward to getting revenge.

“I want (our team) to kill every team there,” Julia Shoemaker, sophomore said. “We just need to play with heart and emotion.”

Should the Lady Cats win sub-state, they will be advancing on to the Bicentennial Center in Salina, playing the best teams in the state of Kansas.

“I really, really want to advance to State,” Miller said. “In any sport, just going to state is such an amazing feeling.”
