JV, freshman dominate games

The JV football team has come out to a roaring start into the season, beating the Perry- Lecompton Kaws, 33-0 in their first game and annihilating the Royal Valley Panthers, 60-0.
Throughout the first part of the season, the JV has had a very strong defense and a productive offense. Until Topeka High. There, the JV team struggled against a talented and speedy Trojan JV. When the first half came to a close, the score was 22-8. By the end of the game the score was 32-24 in the first Wildcat loss of the football season.
“I think they’re doing very well. They had kind of a rough time this past week, but overall they are working hard and making a lot of improvements,” Matt Hundley, JV coach, said.
With a good start to the season the JV squad looks to win the rest of their games.
“The seasons going all right, but we need to get more mentally prepared for games,” Jacob Spalding, junior, said.
The freshman squad has also excelled this season, winning their first game against Jeff West, 22-0. They dominated the Tigers in that game. At Topeka High, against a rather speedy team, the freshman won 38-12. Rock Creek was steam- rolled, 52-0. And the team beat Lawrence Central, 54-0.
“We’re doing pretty good. We’re getting better every game,” said Trent Haverkamp, freshman. The team has been gradually improving since the first game and has not allowed more than 12 points all season.
“We’re learning to play at a faster pace; it’s a big transistion their playing but they still have a ways to go,” Mark Middlemist, freshman coach, said.
