From My Perspective

Before I head off to school in the morning I know out of a few weeks of experience to layer up with long sleeved shirts, a fur-lined jacket, scarf, hat, and gloves just so when I walk into school from the 34˚ weather outside I won’t catch frostbite from the draft inside. The plastic chairs store frost like an ice cube tray and the roar from the air conditioners makes it hard to hear in class. To be quite Wylie (because I don’t say Frank because I don’t know who Frank is or what he has to do about being blatant) I’m afraid to wash my hands in the bathroom because I know once the water hits my skin I’ll be even more vulnerable to losing my fingers from the chill. The cold is so unbearable I’ve put thought into buying an electric blanket and parka just to fight off the upcoming winter. I’m not sure if teachers and/or the principal has checked the weather as of late, but folks it’s FREEZING! I’m not protesting the use of air conditioners or the temperature of the graphic design room as I squat in fetal position to keep as much body heat close to me as possible while writing this story I’m simply stating how I look at the arctic I come to learn from every day each week. I find it kind of sad that when I walk from out the doors of the high school to go to lunch everyday I don’t find a change in temperature, just a draft that finds its way up my shirt, and I find it kind of sad that the main thing I look forward to going to my T.A. over at the Colorado Elementary school is simply the fact that children there don’t walk in an igloo and occasionally I can even take off my coat. Now I haven’t yet started seeing my breath and my entire foot hasn’t gone numb yet even though I still have to occasionally wiggle my toes just to make sure they’re still alive I’ll admit someone has to care enough to keep it at the temperature it’s at, but I would just like to bring to attention that its not July anymore. You don’t have to run up an electric bill already by turning on the heathers, but turning off the air conditioners wouldn’t be such a bad idea either? I’m not alone when I say that.
